The CAIC staff investigates every fatal avalanche in Colorado. We often post preliminary information before issuing a final report. Once we visit the site and speak to the people involved, we post Accident Reports on our website. We like to collect information on close calls, too. If you trigger an avalanche, please call or email us.
The CAIC keeps a list of accidents in the United States since 2006. For previous seasons of US accidents, go to Avalanche.org
The CAIC acts as the central archive for avalanche accidents in the US. We use the archived data to produce annual statistical reports and aid researchers.
