Accident Summary

PRELIMINARY: A solo backcountry tourer was caught in an avalanche in the backcountry near Crystal Mountain Resort. "A member of Crystal Mountain's ski patrol spotted avalanche debris on Thursday. On closer inspection, a backpack and a partially buried person were seen.... Crystal Mountain said [the victim] was apparently ski-touring alone in the backcountry ... going uphill when the avalanche occurred. The avalanche probably happened Wednesday. Crystal Mountain said the asphyxiation is the apparent cause of death."
