Caption: CAIC forecasters traveled in the Wolf Creek Pass area to evaluate storm snow instabilities and the trend in buried weak layers. We found a reactive layer of near-surface facets buried below recent storm snow failing in multiple Extended Column Test. We decided to avoid areas where the slab is most likely stiffer from wind-loading and steep, northerly-facing terrain.
