NE slopes 9,500 - 11,000 ft.
Weather: Light snowfall (S-1) all day with bursts of moderate snowfall (S2) in the afternoon. 2-3” of accumulation during through the day. Mostly calm winds, but occasional moderate gusts, increasing in the afternoon.
Soft slab over weak layering across all NE slopes. Snow depths average around 20”. The weekend’s storm snow has settled to approximately 8” (Fist hardness). Below is a denser layer (4F+ hardness) of faceting rounds that is semi-supportable on skis (the early December storms), above a very weak layer of 2mm facets (Fist hardness). This layer showed easy to moderate initiation and clean propagation (Q1, SC) in extended column tests.
