The CAIC received a report of a skier caught and buried in an avalanche on 3/4/17in Hot Dog Bowl. The description of that incident matches the avalanche detailed in this observation.
- BC Zone: Front Range
- Area Description: ENE facing slope NW of "Hot dog Bowl" at Cameron Pass. Saw evidence of large slide with two ski tracks entering side of slope about 60' below crown. No tracks in slide path (skit tracks occurred before or during slide event). Slide ran ~300-400' and through some sparse trees around a slightly curved fall line/mild gully. We saw the evidence Sunday and used caution on slopes of the area. A pit dug on a NE face nearby resulted in two failed propagation saw test at 25cm (both tests) occurring in a weak layer ~14cm deep with plates with rounded facets resembling the 6-7mm surface goat we experienced on this exact slope in January. Crown of slide seemed to have broke at same later (~14") but may have stepped down to a second week later ~24" down. If slide was triggered by skiers, it seems that second skier triggered slide after first skied in path (also not 100% confident both were on skis, tracks were far away and short leading into slide path)
