• A skier triggered and was caught and carried in this avalanche on Loveland Pass in an area locally known as the Kitchen Wall on Friday Oct. 29, 2021. The other two avalanches ran sympathetically. The snowpack is touchy especially in steep areas below ridgelines and in steep confined gullies where winds have deposited deeper snow over weak early season snow on the ground. The most likely spots for you to tiger one of these avalanches are steep northerly and easterly-facing slopes near and above treeline. Avoid these types of areas to stay safe this weekend. (full)
  • A small soft slab avalanche on a northwest-facing slope near treeline. The debris pile is circled in red and the red arrow is the approximate location of the crown. Despite shallow overall snow depths, if there is enough snow to slide on then it's deep enough to produce an avalanche. South San Juan. October 27, 2021. (full)
