2/18/2024 Field Report - Northern San Juan
Report Information
Commadore.
Two laps in upper basin before starting decent thought lower benched area to highway.
Avalanche
A party of 6 skiing was in the Commodore area. After two laps in the upper couloirs, the group descended toward Highway 550. On the descent, a skier triggered a large avalanche on an east-northeast steep convexity that caught, carried, and fully buried that skier and partially buried-critical a second skier further down the slope. Both were shallowly buried and could clear the snow away from their own airways. No injuries in the incident. CAIC staff visited the site and plan to do a more detailed report.
