Accident Summary

Two snowboarders descended into an area locally referred to as 1st Bowl on Mt Axtell's. They descended one at a time past each other through the steeper upper part of the bowl, which they noted had previously avalanched. Lower in the terrain, where the slope angle descreades into the mid-30 degreess, Rider 2 watched Rider 1 trigger an avalanche. The avalanche carried Rider 2 around 100 feet before they regained their footing and rode out of the debris uninjured.

Today Axtel 1st bowl center big hallway went. It failed about 200 feet below the headwall, which I think the headwall flushed, but lower down it went. Right as the slope mellows out about 30 degrees. My partner and I were leap frogging. They hit the headwall and skied down about 200 feet. Then I took it down to the gully and pulled off to the side. They went next and got taken out by a slide. They went for about a 100-foot ride and then were able to ride out of it. D1. They were fine, but it was scary. I didn't get any pics.
