Observation Summary

I found a generally well-drained summer snowpack with standard conditions for late-June: soft surface conditions at 9am with some runnels and sun cups, plus a few areas where ice lenses, percolation columns, and drainage channels created more a variable snow surface. The temperature gradient was relatively steep on Friday with a 25°F difference between Estes Park (7,500') and the top of Trail Ridge Road (~12,000'). There is about 1,400' of continuous skiing on Sundance's N face, with snow ending around 10,600'. On my way back up, I checked out the Sundance NE couloirs however they had already melted out long ago. Short laps are also possible around Iceberg Lake, and the lake is sufficiently melted out to produce the namesake iceberg.
