Report Information
There was about 3 to 6 inches of new snow depending on the elevation, aspect, and wind loading. Sections of the summit ridge were already wind scoured with the frozen crust exposed from before the storm. I observed only minor cracking around my skis on the ridge which did not propagate.
Small point release slides were visible across the East face of Torreys in the morning.
While skiing off the West ridge of Torreys to Tuning Fork and testing the snow, I triggered a small wind slab avalanche on a tight, rocky NW facing slope above treeline at ~13,900'. The wind slab picked up loose dry snow like the point releases on the east face and ran 1,000' to nearly reach the junction of the two forks.
Ascended Torreys Peak near the summer route in Stevens Gulch. Descended by skiing the skiers right couloir of Tuning Fork.
