Accident Summary

Around 3:30 PM on March 4, 2025, three clients from a helicopter-based ski guiding operation were caught, buried, and killed in an avalanche. The accident occurred in the west fork of the Twentymile River drainage outside of Girdwood, Alaska. Guides from the operation located the three skiers using avalanche rescue transceivers. The guides determined the skiers were buried between 40 and nearly 100 feet deep. They were unable to complete a recovery due to the burial depth.
