Report Information

Observation Summary

Snowpit dug @ approximately 39.01597, -107.17219 at 11,600 ft on a 33 degree NE aspect. No signs of instability while skinning. Notable wind loading. ~125 cm snow depth. Most problematic thing we identified was about 20cm of consolidated snow on top of about 35cm of facets. ECTN25 @ 20cm from surface. Hard to tell if break was compaction or an actual break, was not very obvious. When trying to apply shear force during our ECT, had a massive break @ 45cm from bottom after a significant amount of force was applied. CT 22+1, ~20cm slab on top of the weak layer. Stuck shovel in after the test and slab slid immediately without any wiggling.

Route Description
