Report Information
Echoes of old crowns and flanks from pre-Thanksgiving mitigation can still be seen in the Sisters. Winds have reloaded portions of the upper start zones and the gunner's right flanks of the paths that westerly winds typically crossload with pockets of harder snow. This harder snow sits on top of weaker snow. Elsewhere the Sisters hold weak, faceted snow.
Seven Sisters on Loveland Pass
I parked at the "Ski Area 1 Mile" sign and climbed to the west and gained the Seven Sisters Ridge. I dropped to the north side of the ridge for snowpack observations before returning to the truck via the same route.
Snowpack
I targeted an area below an old crownline from mitigation prior to Thanksgiving that winds have refilled with snow. I found two potential slab/weak layer combos--one in the upper part of the snowpack and one near the bottom. The lower layer combo is the more concerning of the two, with repeatable ECTP results on the weak interface. This interface is about 10cm from the ground and on top of a layer of depth hoar. In areas where winds have not deposited harder layers of snow, the snowpack is weak and faceted.
