Report Information

Observation Summary

We started from Bear Lake TH at 8:30am with the intention to climb the Great Dihedral on Hallett and ski the Hallett East Couloir to descend. Upon reaching Emerald Lake around 9:30am, we noticed two skiers descending the Hallett Couloir triggering some minor wind slabs. Conditions were slightly warmer and sunnier than we had expected for the day and there was a lot of wet debris on eastern and southern facing aspects. We found pockets with 3-4" of fresh snow from last night that became an unpleasant breakable crust with the cloudy conditions later in the afternoon. While beginning our climb at about 10:30am, we noticed a very large wet slide run in Dragonstail. It ran from midway up the couloir across nearly the entire width and continued for about 5 minutes before settling.
