Report Information

Observation Summary

Around 3 to 4 inches of new snow above 11,000 feet bonded well to the old snow surface and came in with very little wind. There were little to no signs of any wind-drifted snow along the Mount Justice Ridgeline. The sun came out in the afternoon, and the new snow rapidly settled at lower elevations to the point where you could see the dust in the old snow surface by early afternoon.

Area Description

Mount Justice

Route Description

Up Mount Justice towards North Anthracite Creek then up Anthracite Pass and back to the quarry road

Snowpack

Almost an inch of new snow in town in Marble and about 3 to 4 inches of new snow above 11,000 feet on Mount Justice. The new snow was well-bonded to the old snow surface with little to no sluffing even on 40+ degree slopes. Aside from some lightly patterned snow just below the Justice ridgeline, there was almost no evidence of any wind-transported snow in this area. Occasional moderate gusts did not visibly transport any of the new snow either. The crust underneath the new snow was fully refrozen until below 11,000 feet after noon, when the new snow settled and the old crusts started to soften up as the sun came out.

Weather

Cloudy morning with on and off light snow clearing around noon, scattered sky coverage and intermittent sunshine.
