Observation Summary

Climbing southerly near and above treeline had a concerning structure for potentially the future. I saw some fairly long shooting cracks in the surface on slopes up to ~35 degrees. Similar to what you'd see in the spring. One was upwards of 100m long and was on a S ridgeline that was up against a SE aspect. I believe I was causing these cracks as I was walking, but hard to say for sure and I could not hear collapses. It was almost as if the snowpack was "unhinging". Digging with hands down to this aspect had a 2-3" warming surface on top of a cold snow and a wind slab layer around 50cm down. Below the wind slab was weak facets. It was concerning enough that we backed off our original plan and shifted to SW and thin (4-5" on grass) terrain.

Two d1 point releases (S, SW) that started in rock bands.
